Samsung Android 9.0 + One UI Rollout timeline

Samsung received an early Christmas present this morning with the update to Android 9.0 Pie for the Galaxy S9 and S9 +. In addition, Samsung now provides a detailed timeline of when the new One UI interface will be available for which device. The list below shows Pie update to Note 9 in February and March for Galaxy S8 and Note 8 series.

The list is pleasingly long and announces the February9 update for the Note9 and the update for the S8 in March 2019. It is a bit of a pity that Samsung will not supply the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge with the One UI. However, the smartphones are already over two years old, so far ... a little understanding can be there. Which devices are missing on the list?

The New Samsung Smart Watch Will Remain With Tizen OS

Wear OS is an operating system for smartwatches that many manufacturers use, watchOS is the one Apple used on Apple Watch and Tizen was also an operating system for Samsung's smartwatches. Did you know that Samsung had tested Wear OS for their smartwatches and was said to be the new operating system for their smartwatches?

The new definition of authenticity
However, at the launch of the Galaxy Watch - Samsung is seen staying on Tizen and there is no direct indication of the Galaxy Watch with the Wear OS. Most recently, reports say the upcoming Samsung smartwatches will remain with Tizen. Only this time, it will have a deeper integration of Bixby. Bixby is Samsung's own virtual assistant and with Bixby integration on this smartwatch of Samsung - users may be more using Bixby and not other virtual helpers.

Stay connected to your IoT devices

According to SamMobile, this new smartwatch is their Sports series and may be named Galaxy Sport. Samsung Gear Sport is their latest smartwatch with Gear branding. So, with the name Galaxy Sport it will be more in line with other Samsung Galaxy products. SamMobile says the model for this watch is SM-R500 and its name code is Pulse. The Tizen version of this Pulse is R500XXE0ARL5. SamMobile's addition again, this Bixby integration is on Bixby Reminder. It is to notify such as to start exercising or to warn the car parking location.

Track your progress

Undoubtedly, after this smartwatch is launched - the Galaxy Watch with Tizen will now receive similar identities. Whatever we both look forward to.

LED TV: What Is ARC (Audio Return Channel)?

The Frame, QLED TV, Premium UHD TV
ARC, or Audio Return Channel, is an HDMI feature, built into many TVs, receivers, and sound bars. It has the potential to simplify setup, but it comes at a potential cost. Here's what you need to know.

Audio Return Channel, or ARC, uses a single HDMI connection to send audio from a TV to the soundbar or AV receiver.

In theory, this could simplify your setup, and reduce the number of cables you need. Unfortunately, it's not that simple.

Traditionally you have needed to run both a video and audio connection from a home theatre to the TV. ARC (Audio Return Channel) changes this by eliminating the need to use two cable connections; instead, all you need is one HDMI connection.

To use ARC you will need the following:
- A High Speed 1.4 HDMI Cable
- An ARC capable TV (displayed 'ARC' by the capable HDMI input)

- ARC capable home theatre
- Anynet+ enabled on the TV

ARC enabled TVs and home theatres are equipped with 1.4 standard HDMI ports. The 1.4 HDMI standard added the audio return channel. By using this ARC the TV can send incoming audio from one source (For example:-  A cable box connected to HDMI 1) to the home theatre connected to the HDMI 2 (ARC) connection. This eliminates the need for an additional optical or analogue audio connection.

Samsung One UI

One UI launcher was introduced around a month ago to replace the Samsung Experience interface used over the past two years. It will be used on devices running the Android Pie operating system later. Today Samsung finally shares a short video showing all the reforms on the interface and One UI functionality.

Among the interesting things that are shown are icon changes, menu order, typeface updates and even night modes. With One UI, the device will be easier to use with one hand with a more minimalist design parallel to Genuine Android. One UI is currently undergoing beta testing on Galaxy S9 and Note 9 on certain markets.

5 Next-Level Fortnite Mobile Tips

A Fortnite Samsung gamer plays on the Samsung Galaxy Note9

Most players are dropping in while on a console, but is there any help for Fortnite mobile gameplay? If you’re the only one in your pack playing on an Android, here are five battle-tested Fortnite mobile tips to help you stay out of your opponents’ crosshairs.

Create a landmark, then blow it up

One of the most unique aspects of Fortnite is the players’ ability to build their own cover. While it can help in the middle of a vicious firefight, it can also attract far-away players who otherwise wouldn’t have seen you.

Here’s a Fortnite gameplay hack: turn the tables on console players by using a small fort as bait. Build a structure big enough to be spotted from afar but small enough that you can evacuate it quickly, then throw every remote detonator on it that you can.

Next, find nearby natural cover (a tree or a rock will suffice—they’ll be focused on the structure) and wait for someone to enter your fort looking for you. Blowing your detonators then following up with a high-DPS weapon (Rare or higher machine guns do quick work) can land an easy score for Fortnite Android players.

The Note9’s Infinity Display is great for Fortnite mobile visibility—essential when skydiving.

Don’t drop right away

Every round is packed with a hundred players of varying abilities. Fortnite Android players need to filter out the pros, and quickly.

Don’t jump until the last ten seconds of the Battle Bus’s trip across the map, then aim for a non-named area of interest with buildings far from the bus’s path. You’ll land with little competition and lots of loot, and by the time you run back to the action, most of the players in your round will have already taken care of each other.

Granted, you stand a higher chance of being overcome by the storm this way, but if you keep an eye on your map and keep moving inland, you’ll be fine.

Listen for opponents

Fortnite might not have a mini-radar in the HUD like other shooters, but you can learn a lot about your immediate situation with in-game audio cues—a simple yet effective Fortnite mobile trick.

You can get the jump on players (or keep others from getting the jump on you) if you hear the sound of their footsteps. And with Season 6’s updates, those footsteps can tell you more than ever. Players who are above you, like the upper floor of a house, have higher-pitched footsteps, while the footsteps of players beneath you have a lower pitch. Other audio cues, like opening doors and nearby pickaxes, can give away another player’s position.

If you’re playing on mute or with bargain bin headphones, you’re starting the game at a disadvantage. Investing in a solid pair of headphones like the LEVEL ON Wireless Pro noise cancelling headphones is almost like setting up your own mini-radar.

You can learn a lot about your immediate situation with in-game audio cues.

Tip: Finishing higher up in the round will net you more XP than going for quick scores will.

Know the difference between score and XP

Winning a shootout with another player feels great and might get you to the Fortnite front page, but it doesn’t advance you through the tiers the way big XP gains do, and nothing gets you XP like placing higher in a round does.

A 7th place finish with 2 kills gets you more XP than a 22nd place finishes with 10 kills does. If you’re looking to earn some tier rewards, starting in a remote area of the island and letting the pros pick themselves off will move you up the ranks much faster than lots of quick drops into early game firefights.

For Fortnite XP, survival beats deadliness. It pays to keep your head down and out of the crosshairs as long as you can.

Go for the gold

This might be obvious if you’ve played more than three times, but it always, always, always pays off to sweep an area for golden chests before picking your spot to fall. Circle the area as your glider deploys, check out the surrounding buildings, and take your time in choosing your drop. It doesn’t slow your descent down, and you’re stuck up there anyway.

If you don’t see any chests, pick a rooftop with a weapon on it, drop on the weapon, then run across the roof listening for a chest’s tell-tale hum. Break apart the floor where you hear the hum and you’ll drop right onto your very own arsenal.

If you still can’t find a chest, work your way through the building you’re in quickly and quietly. Don’t stop for grey weapons, keep an ear out for a chest’s hum, and move onto another building as fast as you can. Dropping into a poorly-spawned structure is a great way to get picked off early in the round.

When in doubt, take a break

Sometimes, it pays to take a break and come back fresh. Game Launcher on Samsung devices is full of new games to try, from the fun of Fortnite gameplay to puzzle games like 2048. If you’re hitting a wall, put down the Port-A-Fort and pick up something new to give your mind a break.

Drop in like you mean it

Grab this gear on the way to your next Fortnite mobile Victory Royale.

10 writing tips for the aspiring author

Prepare for National Novel Writing Month with these handy tips

Each November thousands of wordsmiths across the globe put pen to pad in an attempt to write a 50,000-word novel. It’s called National Novel Writing Month, and since 1999 this internet-based creative writing project has challenged every book lover to fulfil their dream – to actually write a novel.

It runs from November 1st to 30th, so don’t be surprised if your local cafes and libraries see an influx of writer types, hunched over their laptops, hyped up on caffeine, typing furiously to a deadline.

In honour of NaNoWriMo, we’ve put together a list of 10 writing challenges for the aspiring author. It should get the creative juices flowing and, with the Galaxy S Pen, give the modern writer greater mobility to flex their penmanship.

Samsung Galaxy Note9 and S Pen

1. Write daily

Writing daily is the best way to get started. The topic can be anything, too. A random thought, a reflection of the day, a paragraph about your favourite colour – you get the deal. Practice writing every day and you’ll slowly but surely see your writing improve. And with the S Pen, you can

write anywhere at any time. Write directly on your Galaxy smartphone or tablet whenever and wherever inspiration strikes – on the bus, while you’re shopping or even in a bar.

2. Write different genres

If you’re having trouble landing on the genre for your novel, try experimenting with some of your favourites. Are you a Dracula and Frankenstein fan? Have a go at writing a spooky horror. Maybe you’re a Game of Thrones devotee? Craft some compelling fantasies on the page. Fancy yourself the next Kerouac? Get on the road and give it your best.

3. Write a poem

Remember poems? Those strange paragraphs and sentences from English class that sometimes rhymed and sometimes didn’t? They’re actually a great way to have fun with words and there’s a type for everyone too. Epigrams are funny and witty; lyrics are emotional and personal; limericks rhyme and Haikus bend syllables for effect. Give it your best shot and make the words work for you.

4. Write about your last holiday

What was the last holiday you went on? Where did you go and what did you see? And who did you travel with? Write about your last trip and all the exciting sights you saw and the times you had. Scroll through your image library to remember all those glorious details. Travelling’s always a great way to get those creative juices flowing.

A hand holding the Samsung Note9 with and image of Montenegro in the phone and in the background

5. Write a short story

Once you’ve warmed up with some poems, try your hand at a short story. There are five key elements that make a solid short story: character, setting, conflict, plot and theme. Sketch out those ideas and you’ll have a rolling start to your novel. Wanna be a great novelist? Start like all the greats did with a short story.

6. Write about nature

There’s nothing quite like relaxing in a park. Sit down under a tree and write some words about mother nature. You can even colour coordinate your writing with the S Pen. Use Ocean Blue for describing the sea, Midnight Black for the night sky or Lavender Purple for a bed of flowers.

7. Write a stream of consciousness

These ones for the rule breakers and grammar protestors. Spill all your thoughts on the page and don’t worry if they make sense or not. Set some broken scenes, jot down sounds, smells, random ideas and half-baked characters, all at once. Cut up those thoughts and sentences to recreate new ones. Consciousness knows no bounds, so let it run wild on screen.

8. Write some fan fiction

As the title suggests, fan fiction is a fictional story about characters or settings from an original, created by fans of the work. This lets you create your own story using characters from your favourite novels or films. Think Harry Potter, Stranger Things or any Stephen King novel. What do you think would make Star Wars better? Show us what you’ve got.

9. Write a letter to your future self

‘Dear future me…’ Write a letter to yourself with some handy tips and advice. Don’t let yourself forget where you came from and, to make the point, underline the phrases you never want to forget. The S Pen’s fine 0.7mm tip and 4096 pressure levels mean you can thicken and underline to your heart’s desire, just as you can with a pencil and pad.

10. Brainstorm your novel

Congratulations, you’ve made it this far. With your mind inspired and creativity at peak, it’s finally time to start that 50,000-word novel. Before you start though, try brainstorming ideas using all you’ve learned so far. With the S Pen, you don’t need to do it in one sitting. Brainstorm anytime, anywhere. When you get home, hook up to your

DeX station, turn your phone into a PC and start typing. Remember, it’s all about enjoying the creative process, so don’t forget to have some fun with your penmanship. Good luck, and may the best writer win.
